About us - Ban Sabai Reosrts and Spa Koh Samui and Chiang Mai, Thailand

In 1996 we started work on our first Ban Sabai Spa for Health and Well-being in our existing classic Ayudhaya-style wooden house.  Our concept then, as now, was for our guests to relax, celebrate their stay and let us focus on their health and well-being.

            As time went on, more and more guests kept returning, so 2000 we extended our spa facilities with an additional Ayuthaya house as reception and changing rooms, several treatment salas, Steam room, Whirlpool, pond and lush tropical gardens and all this right on the beach. Visitors enjoyed a variety of treatment packages and many stayed with us for days, and sometimes weeks, at a time. Whether it was just for a relaxing few hours, or as a fully-programmed retreat.

Ban Sabai is owned by

Chitra Klanprayoon and her Swiss husband Matthias E. Froelich.

Chitra or by her nick name Aew, studied in Chiang Mai University Mass communication has over 30 years experiences in resort and restaurants, PR, guest relation and even for a few years she was working for movie productions here in Thailand such as year of the dragon, air America and Good morning Vietnam. She is health conscious and has her motto eat for living and is since several years vegetarian.

Matthias arrived in Thailand 1991 with hotel management experience and graduated from Swiss Hotel Management School in Lucerne.  He had the opportunity in 1991 to join Amari Hotel & Resorts in Samui, experienced the busy metropolis Bangkok for 2 year and then back to paradise island Koh Samui as opening General Manager of Poppies Samui. 1996 Chitra and Matthias founded their  own company to run a real estate development and start Ban Sabai Spa for Wellbeing at Big Buddha.

Matthias designed and build several villas, Ban Sabai Big Buddha, Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa, Koh Samui and Ban Sabai Sunset Beach Resort & Spa Koh Samui. “gardening is making so much fun here – the tropical plant variety and beauty is simply so exciting”
